MultiDiverse: Erasmus Mundus Joint MA in Multilingualism & Cultural Diversity (Germany, Greece, Poland)

MultiDiverse is a multi-disciplinary highly integrated transnational Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) programme in Multilingualism and Cultural Diversity that brings together expertise from three EU universities and four disciplines in a complementary way. The programme is offered jointly by the University of Konstanz (Germany), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), and Jagiellonian University (Poland) with contributions by 16 associated partners from academic and non-academic organisations in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

MultiDiverse will train young talented people with a background in linguistics, education, psychology, or sociology on multilingualism and cultural diversity across disciplines to respond to the labour market needs within the academic and non- academic sectors, as well as societal needs. Students will obtain high-quality training, will become part of an international network, and will develop key competencies that can significantly improve their employability. Training in digital skills and science communication will enable them to raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges of multilingualism and cultural diversity at national and local levels. This can lead to a better understanding of multilingualism and cultural diversity by policymakers as well as the general public and can result in a better understanding and implementation of policies on multilingualism and cultural diversity in Europe and beyond.

NOTE: Several other Erasmus Mundus MA programs might prove relevant to some followers of the Center, including MITRA: International MA in Transnational Migrations, NOHA: Joint MA in International Humanitarian Action, or TELME – Teaching, designing, managing, foreign Language learning for a Multicultural and inclusive Environment.

U Nevada Funded Social Justice MA

The Department of Communication Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno welcomes applicants for our M.A. program in Communication Studies.  Our program focuses on Social Justice.  The program offers students an opportunity to develop a theoretical foundation and a repertoire of skills associated with advocating for social justice across a number of contexts. Students may focus on interpersonal, organizational, intercultural, rhetorical, or performative areas and are able to include courses from other graduate areas of study. Graduates will find employment in related areas, such as public advocacy, public service, labor relations, human resources, dispute resolution services, and/or higher education, and the degree is helpful for management positions and application to related PhD programs. Threaded throughout the curriculum are the values inherent to the successful management of communication in practice, such as diversity, inclusion, tolerance, listening, ethics, understanding, assertiveness, and responsibility. In order to prepare students to create the socially just worlds they want to live and work in, the MA program in communication studies at the University of Nevada focuses on the process and socially constructed nature of communication as a means to create social meaning and change.

We are pleased to offer competitively funded TA positions. These positions come with a tuition waiver and a stipend.

Fellowships for Graduate Study at King’s College London

A range of post-graduate studentships (called graduate fellowships in US) are available for 2016-17 entry at the Centre for Language Discourse & Communication at King’s College London, offering supervision in text, discourse & narrative analysis, pragmatics, linguistic ethnography, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, applied, educational, cognitive and corpus linguistics:
• Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) Studentships (deadline: 29 January 2016).  These cover sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, interactional discourse analysis, linguistic ethnography, areas of applied linguistics, computational linguistics, educational linguistics and language & literacy education.  Candidates can apply either for a three year PhD Studentship or for a four year Studentship which involves a one year MA and a three year PhD.
• Arts & Humanities Research Council/London Arts & Humanities Partnership (AHRC/LAHP) Studentships (deadline: 29 January 2016).   This covers research on linguistic structure, history, theory and description, including stylistics, discourse analysis, pragmatics, corpus studies, translation, and some areas of applied linguistics.  Studentships last three years.
• Studentships administered by the King’s College Graduate School.
