Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies Fellowships 2026-7 (Finland)

Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies was established in 2001 as an independent institute of the University of Helsinki to enhance scholarly excellence in the humanities and social sciences, promote interaction between different fields of academic research, and to further international academic cooperation. The Collegium’s fellowships are open to researchers in the humanities, social sciences, educational sciences, theology, and law, and to researchers in other fields focusing on topics related to the human sciences. The applicant’s doctoral degree must have been conferred by the application deadline.

The Collegium appoints fellows at various stages in their academic careers and from different disciplines, but has no fixed quotas for seniority, discipline, nationality or gender. The Collegium is committed to promoting equality and preventing discrimination.

Successful applicants should provide evidence of their ability to work in an international, interdisciplinary research environment and of their ability to publish at a high international level.

U Cambridge: Junior Research Fellowship (UK)

Stipendiary Junior Research Fellowship, Christ’s College, University of Cambridge, UK. Deadline: 16 September 2025.

The College invites applications for a 4 year stipendiary Junior Research Fellowship in specified areas of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It will be tenable for four years from normally no later than 1 October 2026 and is not renewable.

A Junior Research Fellowship is intended for a researcher early in their career and, in this case, is restricted to applicants in one or more of the following subject areas:

  • Classics
  • History (c. 700–c. 1450)
  • Music
  • Politics & International Studies

The Junior Research Fellowship offers an opportunity to carry out novel research in a stimulating academic environment. A successful applicant is expected to be either a postgraduate student, probably in the latter stages of research leading to a PhD degree (or equivalent), or a post-doctoral researcher who has completed their PhD Degree after 1 January 2025.

Wissenschaftskolleg Fellowships 2026-7 (Germany)

Early Career Call for Humanities and Social Sciences Fellowships, Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, Germany. Deadline: 1 September 2025.

At the heart of the Wissenschaftskolleg is the idea that Fellows must have the freedom to choose their own research project. The Fellows’ only obligations are to reside at the Wissenschaftskolleg for 10 months (mid-September to mid-July), and to meet once a day for a meal and each Tuesday for the weekly Colloquium.
Such an intellectually heterogeneous atmosphere often creates a productive friction that leads Fellows to reconsider their approaches, and may lead to unexpected innovation.

The Wissenschaftskolleg invites applications from researchers in an early career stage in the humanities and social sciences for fellowships starting in the following academic year.

NY Public Library Fellowships: Middle Eastern & Islamic Studies 2026 (USA)

The New York Public Library is pleased to offer the Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Fellowship to support advanced research on The New York Public Library’s holdings of materials from the Arab world, Turkey, Iran, South Asia, Central Asia, and their diasporas in the United States. Fellowships are open to Ph.D. candidates, post-doctoral scholars, and independent researchers with projects that would significantly benefit from research drawing on collections accessible at The New York Public Library. Projects requiring access to original materials including manuscripts, archives, books, photographs, prints, maps, newspapers, and journals will be given preference, but all worthy projects will be considered. Applicants studying the humanities as well as those working in the visual, auditory/performing, and literary arts are welcome to apply.

Established with the generous support of Mahnaz Ispahani Bartos and Adam Bartos, the Fellowship Program will support one fellow annually for three months with a stipend of $25,000. Each fellow will have full access to the Library’s collections and staff, as well as a dedicated place to work in the Vartan Gregorian Center for Research in the Humanities.

The annual fellow will be selected following a review of applications by NYPL staff and an external committee of scholars, librarians, curators, and creatives. The Library will also explore how to support international scholars with visa requirements. The Library will continue offering this annual fellowship through 2029. Middlebury Language Schools: Fellows for Peace 2026 (USA)

The Fellows for Peace fellowships are awarded to 12 languages and cover tuition, housing, and food for one summer at any level of study. The Fellows for Peace fellowship is a highly competitive, merit-based full tuition, on-campus housing and food award.

Successful fellowship applications typically have a strong background in peace work or conflict resolution, broadly construed. They have represented a wide range of professions, from NGO work to government service, journalism to law, medicine to the arts, and so on. Applications should have a plan for future peace work and knowledge of the region and relevant issues. The fellowship committee gives more weight to accomplishments and related future projects than it does to academic qualifications alone.

U Cambridge: Early Career Research Fellowship (UK)

Corpus Christi College, Cambridge (UK) invites applications for one Early-Career Research Fellowship tenable for four years from 1 October 2026. Eligible applicants are expected to be at an early stage of their career (and may not yet have completed their doctoral work). If postdoctoral, “early career” is defined as being within two years from the date of a successful viva voce examination at the time of application (that is noon on Wednesday 3 September 2025). Early-Career Research Fellows are normally expected to be resident in Cambridge for the term of their Fellowship.

This year applications will be considered in the following subjects: Modern and Medieval Languages;
Classics; Linguistics; Asian and Middle Eastern Studies.

U Basel: Forum Basiliense Junior Fellows: Conflict and Cooperation (Switzerland)

In 2026, the intellectual focus for the groups of international fellows and guests at the Forum Basiliense will be “Conflict and Cooperation”. With this theme, the Forum Basiliense will be addressing the numerous conflicts and crises in the contemporary world. In this interdisciplinary space, ongoing scholarly engagement with conflicts and their dynamics can establish dialogues with research on exemplary forms of cooperation and the conceptual foundations of cooperative action. This dual focus deliberately combines two conceptual fields in order to reflect on how problems of conflict and cooperation relate to and illuminate each other. We encourage applications focused on this theme in any of the disciplines represented at the University of Basel.

They invite fellows for visits of three to six months during 2026, preferably during the spring or the autumn term. Fellows are expected to participate in events and in scientific exchange (a regular colloquium) during their stay.

Your Profile: You hold an excellent PhD or a junior professorship in any of the disciplines represented at the University of Basel. Fellowships are awarded based on scientific merit, the quality of the application, and how the application speaks to the theme of “Conflict and Cooperation”. They welcome applications from all over the world.

French Institutes for Advanced Study: Fellowships 2026-27 (France)

The French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Programme (FIAS-FP) offers 10-month fellowships in the seven Institutes of Aix-Marseille, Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes, Paris and Rennes. It welcomes applications from high-level international scholars to develop their innovative research projects in France. For the 2026-2027 academic year, FIAS offers 28 fellowships of 10 months: 7 in Aix-Marseille, 2 in Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), 3 in Lyon, 2 in Montpellier, 4 in Nantes, 7 in Paris and 3 in Cergy.

This call is open to all disciplines in the social sciences and the humanities (SSH) and to all other research fields interfacing with the SSH. Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult the webpages of the host Institutes for Advanced Study (IAS) to learn more about their specific scientific priorities, areas of focus, and institutional partners, as these should be carefully considered before applying.

FIAS Fellows will benefit from the support and stimulating scientific environment offered by the IAS, characterized by a multidisciplinary cohort of fellows and strong connections to local research centers and laboratories. They will be free to organize their work and conduct research according to their own priorities and interests.

FIAS awards fellowships to outstanding researchers of all career levels, from postdoctoral researchers to senior scientists. The minimum requirement is a PhD + 2 years of research experience at the time of the application (PhD training period will not be considered in the calculation of experience). Researchers from all countries are eligible to the FIAS Fellowship Programme but they must have spent no more than 12 months in France during the three years prior to the application deadline.

CIDOB: Programa Talent Global 2025 (Spain)

The Banco Sabadell Foundation and CIDOB (Barcelona Center for International Affairs) launch the fourth edition of the Programa Talent Global with the aim of promoting quality research by young researchers, through a paid research stay and two awards for applied research. The Junior Visiting Fellowship is aimed at two young researchers up to the age of 30 who have demonstrated research capabilities and would join CIDOB’s research team for a period of six months through a paid research stay.

Marjorie Boulton Fellowships 2025 (USA)

The Esperantic Studies Foundation (ESF) announces its 2025 competition for research fellowships in all fields of the humanities and social sciences, particularly as they relate to interlinguistics, linguistic justice, intercultural communication, Esperanto, and related phenomena. Interdisciplinary work is welcome, and primary disciplines might include, but are not limited to, linguistics, sociology, history, anthropology, communication, or media studies. Open to candidates worldwide, with a preference for candidates in North America and the global south, the fellowships may be held concurrently with other awards or fellowships and are non-renewable.

Awards of $10,000 USD may be given in each of two categories: Doctoral and Post-doctoral research. See below for eligibility requirements.

Category 1. Doctoral Research for students engaged in or about to begin their doctoral dissertations. Eligibility: Applicants must be admitted to candidacy for a research doctoral degree at an accredited university, in good standing in their programs, and considering or embarked on an original research project that will make a significant contribution to the field.

Category 2. Post-doctoral Research for scholars who have recently completed their dissertations, to support related research and publication. Eligibility: Applicants must be no more than five years beyond receiving the Ph.D and propose an original, significant research project; it can be either an extension of the dissertation or a new program of research.
