Harvard U: Multiple Fellowships in Law & Society or Negotiation (USA)

Harvard University is offering a number of fellowship opportunities:

  1. The Program on Law and Society Visiting Fellowship Program provides opportunities for outstanding scholars and legal practitioners to undertake research, writing, and scholarly engagement on law and society in Muslim majority and minority contexts. They are particularly interested in applicants whose work focuses on human rights, women’s rights, children’s rights, minority rights, animal welfare and rights, constitutional law, food law, environmental law and climate change in particular, migration and refugee studies, LGBTQ issues, and related areas. They welcome applicants with advanced degrees (e.g., JD, LLM, SJD, PhD or other comparable degree) and experienced practicing lawyers who aim to draw upon their legal experience in their Fellowship project. Fellows may spend from one month up to one academic year (excluding June-August) in residence at Harvard Law School working on an independent project. Deadline: 1 February 2023.

  2. The Program on Negotiation Graduate Research Fellowship provides support for one year of dissertation research and writing in negotiation and related topics in alternative dispute resolution and give fellows an opportunity to immerse themselves in the diverse resources available at PON. Deadline: 9 February 2023.

US-Japan Leadership Program 2023/24 (Japan/USA)

USJLP is the flagship program of the United States-Japan Foundation. It launched in 2000 with the purpose of developing a network of communication, friendship and understanding among the next generation of leaders in each country.  With the goal of bridging the gap between East and West, the Program fosters a continuing dialogue among future leaders in a broad variety of professions. It starts this process by bringing some young leaders together from each country for two intensive weeklong conferences over two years, with discussions revolving around historical and current issues in bilateral relations, as well as issues reaching beyond our two countries. Through serious conversation as well as recreation and shared cultural activities it seeks to nurture lifelong friendships. The Program is designed to keep the leaders in touch with each other throughout their careers through a dedicated website and member directory, frequent reunions and newsletters, and online social networks.

All members hold US or Japanese citizenship, enter the Program between the ages of 28-44 and have demonstrated leadership in their respective fields. Membership requires a commitment to participate in two consecutive summer conferences as a Delegate (one in Japan, and one in the USA), and the intent to remain active in the Program as a Fellow (alumnus).

VIA Global Community Fellowships

The Global Community Fellowship is a 13-15 month program for recent university graduates and starting as well as experienced professionals. Fellows work at NGOs, schools, universities, and social enterprises across Asia to support community development, capacity-building, and education. By working directly with communities, fellows get hands-on experience learning how organizations in Asia are using creative and innovative methods to address critical social challenges.

Fellows engage in a wide range of activities and tasks with VIA local partners. Each post has a unique mix of responsibilities, which generally fall into the following categories:

  • Education — Fellows advance student development in critical thinking and cross-cultural communication. Through teaching (English or other subjects depending on the post), you’ll help students to access future education and professional opportunities.

  • Training & Capacity-building — Fellows develop training resources and curricula for partners to enhance their organizational operations and optimize for impact. You may help with needfinding, research, training program or workshop design, facilitation, and assessment for partner staff and/or the communities they serve.

  • Community Development — Fellows support community development and international communication efforts by facilitating access resources, networks, and collaboration opportunities. You may help with fundraising, project management, and community outreach efforts of local partners.

Humanities Research Fellowships: Study of the Arab World (UAE)

The New York University Abu Dhabi Research Institute invites scholars who wish to contribute to the vibrant research culture of NYUAD’s Saadiyat campus to apply for a residential fellowship, starting September 2023. The Institute welcomes applications from scholars working in all areas of the Humanities related to the study of the Arab world, its rich literature and history, its cultural and artistic heritage, and its manifold connections with other cultures. This includes, among others, Islamic Intellectual History and Culture, any areas of particular relevance to the MENA region, as well as projects thematically connected to existing research projects and initiatives at NYUAD’s divisions of Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences.

Both distinguished scholars with an established reputation and promising scholars who are at the beginning of their career can apply for a research fellowship. The program awards one-year fellowships.

National Humanities Center: Fellowships for 2023-4 (USA)

Scholars from all parts of the globe are eligible; stipends and travel expenses are provided. Applicants must have a doctorate or equivalent scholarly credentials. Mid-career and senior scholars are encouraged to apply. Emerging scholars with a strong record of peer-reviewed work may also apply. The Center does not support the revision of doctoral dissertations.

In addition to all fields of the humanities, the Center accepts applications from scholars in the natural and social sciences, the arts, the professions, and public life who are engaged in humanistic projects. Thanks to generous support from funders and partners, the Center is able to offer dedicated fellowship support for faculty from HBCUs and scholars of early modern China and its world.

Humboldt Research Fellowships (Germany)

The Humboldt Research Fellowship is available to researchers of all nationalities and research areas, at either the postdoctoral or experienced researcher level, to conduct research in Germany. Through the Humboldt Research Fellowship, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation sponsors researchers with above-average qualifications from across the globe. The fellowship enables you to conduct your own research at various stages of your career in collaboration with a host at a German research institution of your choice. Hosts may apply for a subsidy towards research costs.

Postdocs

Benefit from research sponsorship in Germany at the beginning of your academic career. The Humboldt Research Fellowship for postdoctoral researchers enables you to conduct research in Germany. The monthly fellowship amount is €2,670. Fellowships may last from 6 to 24 months.

Experienced researchers

You can still apply for research sponsorship in Germany even if you are already well advanced in your academic career. The Humboldt Research Fellowship for experienced researchers enables you to conduct research in Germany. The fellowship amount is €3,170. Fellowships may last from 6 to 18 months and can be divided into up to three stays within three years.

 

American-Scandinavian Foundation: Grants & Fellowships

Grants

The American-Scandinavian Foundation offers a range of grants and fellowships intended to encourage exchanges between the United States and Nordic countries. Deadline: Each program has its own deadline.

These include fellowships for Americans for study or research in Scandinavia, fellowships for Scandinavians for study or research in the US, translation prizes for outstanding translations of poetry, fiction, drama, or literary prose written by a 20th or 21st-century Nordic author, and grants for a wide variety of programs that bring American and Scandinavian culture, art and thought to public audiences, among others.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) promotes firsthand exchange of intellectual and creative influence between the United States and the Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden (some opportunities also include Greenland, Faroe Islands, and Sámpi). A publicly supported American nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization based in New York City, ASF has an extensive program of fellowships, grants, intern/trainee sponsorship, publishing, and cultural activities.

Ikeda Center for Peace, Learning, & Dialogue Education Fellowships (USA)

The Education Fellows Program was established by the Ikeda Center for Peace, Learning, and Dialogue in 2007. The program honors the educational legacy of global peace builder and Center founder, Daisaku Ikeda, and aims to advance research and scholarship on the internationally growing field of Ikeda/Soka studies in education.

Up to three Ikeda Center Education Fellows will be selected by an Advisory Council of leading education scholars each application period. Fellows will be eligible for two years of funding at $10,000 per year, with the second year contingent on proof of progress.

UNAOC: Fellowships for Emerging Leaders 2022

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is pleased to launch the Call for Applications for the 2022 edition of its Fellowship Programme. The Call is open to participants between 25 to 35 years old, from the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and North America, with a strong interest in intercultural exchanges and intercultural cooperation to challenge and deconstruct hate speech and stereotypes.

The theme of the Fellowship 2022 is “Countering discrimination and racism: the nexus to building pluralistic and diverse societies”. The choice of the theme stems from UNAOC’s core mandate of tackling racism and discrimination and finding ways to addressing root causes of polarization within and between societies. Intercultural dialogue represents an important tool to prevent conflict and build social cohesion, peace and stability. As a mainstay of UNAOC’s work, intercultural dialogue will remain a central focus of the Fellowship agenda with visits and activities aiming at providing participants with crucial comprehension tools to help them understand the plurality and the complexity of their surroundings, and to get an extensive grasp of their host country’s culture, politics, society, religion, media and more.

To be selected, candidates must be able to present professional achievements related to the theme. The Call will lead to the selection of a group of 8 young leaders from Europe, North-America (EUNA) and a group of 8 young leaders from the Middle East and North-Africa (MENA) who will travel together to selected countries in both regions for two weeks. The goal of the Fellowship is to challenge perceptions and deconstruct stereotypes by providing participants with first hand exposure to cultural diversity. In every country they visit, UNAOC Fellows will interact with a wide range of local stakeholders. Together, they will explore opportunities for intercultural collaboration and exchange ideas and good practices on building pluralistic and diverse societies as a foundation for sustainable peace.

 

 

Toronto Metropolitan U: Civil Society & Public Administration Fellowship in Migration (Canada)

CERC Civil Society & Public Administration Fellowship, CERC in Migration and Integration, Toronto Metropolitan University, Toronto, Canada. Deadline: 13 June 2022.

The CERC Civil Society & Public Administration Fellowship program welcomes practitioners from civil society organizations or government bodies who have international experience working in the field of migration or immigrant integration and inclusion to apply to participate in a one-month residency at Toronto Metropolitan University. The Fellowship program invites applications from practitioners outside of Canada for the 2022-2023 academic year. The residency takes place in Toronto and must occur between October 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023 for a consecutive period of 20 to 35 days. CERC Migration anticpates awarding two fellowships for the next academic year.

The CERC Civil Society & Public Administration Fellowship program promotes international collaboration and learning exchange between practitioners and researchers. It provides a unique professional development opportunity for practitioners to share and build on their field experience, connect to an expert team of Canadian and international researchers and local stakeholders, and receive research training or conduct their own field research. The experience will help practitioners develop and bring back to their organizations innovative ideas for applied research and evidence-based good practices. At the same time, practitioners would be encouraged to contribute their perspectives to the work of the CERC Migration team.
