“Launched by the Office of Global Learning, the story circles initiative is intended to bridge the gaps in intercultural understanding between Cornell’s international and domestic populations. The project began as OGL explored ways to promote belonging among international students at the height of the pandemic, when students were scattered across the globe – in Ithaca, at Study Away, or studying remotely from their home countries. The workshops make use of UNESCO’s Story Circles methodology, which has been tested to nurture cultural diversity across the world.”

The Society for the Humanities at Cornell University invites applications for residential fellowships from scholars whose research projects reflect on the 2021-22 theme of Afterlives. Up to six Fellows will be appointed. The fellowships are held for one academic year. Each Society Fellow will receive $55,000.
Fellows include scholars and practitioners from other universities and members of the Cornell faculty released from regular duties. Fellows at the Society for the Humanities are “residential,” and will collaborate with one another and the Taylor Family Director of the Society for the Humanities, Paul Fleming, Professor of Comparative Literature and German Studies. Fellows spend their time in research and writing during the residential fellowship, and are required to participate in a weekly Fellows Seminar workshopping each other’s projects and participating in lively discussions on readings based on the yearly theme.
Fellows teach one small seminar during their fellowship year appropriate for graduate students and advanced undergraduates. Though courses are designed to fit the focal theme, there are no additional restrictions on what or how the course should be taught. Fellows are encouraged to experiment with both the content and the method of their seminar particularly as it relates to their current research.

The Cornell Social Media Lab in the Department of Communication at Cornell University is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Associate to participate in inter-university research at the intersection of instructional design, human-computer interaction, and educational technology. The postdoc will work on the development of technologies and content for educational interventions as a part of the Social Media TestDrive project, an interactive digital citizenship education tool developed in collaboration with Common Sense Education. As they seek to expand the Social Media TestDrive program to new populations, such as youth from low-income households and older adults, they are especially interested in someone who has interest and experience designing inclusive technologies and educational interventions for diverse populations of learners.
This position is a 1-year, full-time academic position beginning August 1, 2020 and renewable for a 2nd year contingent on available work, funding and performance. The Postdoctoral Associate will be part of an interdisciplinary project team of researchers and students in the Cornell Social Media Lab, the Cornell Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research, Information Science, Lehigh University College of Engineering and Applied Science, and external partners (e.g., Common Sense Education, New York State 4-H) who are working to advance social media literacy and digital education among youth. The ideal candidate will be proactive, resourceful, highly engaged, and passionate about digital learning and social media literacy. The Postdoctoral Associate will be based in the Cornell Social Media Lab and will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and a collaborative community of scholars interested in social behaviors and information and communication technologies.
