The University of Manchester seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Global Development (Teaching and Research) within the Global Development Institute (GDI). This post will enhance the GDI’s research and teaching capacity in global development, in particular on the theoretical and empirical analysis of labour, gender and/or environmental sustainability in global production. The GDI has made significant advances in research and policy on global value chains and production networks, in particular through the ‘Capturing the Gains: Economic and Social Upgrading in Global Value Chains’ programme (2008-2014), the ‘Rising Powers and Interdependent Futures’ programme (2010-2017) and the ‘Shifting South: Decent Work and Regional Value Chains’ study (2019-21).

This new appointment is expected to contribute to and help lead the next iteration of policy focused research at GDI on these critical areas. The University welcomes applications from exceptional candidates who can make significant contributions to research and research-informed teaching that complements existing offerings in GDI. The post will be attached to the GDI’s Social Development (SD) teaching cluster and the Global Production Networks, Trade and Labour research group.
