The University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track position in Communication Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor for the Public Advocacy and Civic Engagement track.
We seek a candidate who specializes in intercultural communication. Example areas of emphasis under intercultural communication could include critical race, participatory research methods, social justice and activism, civic engagement, international communication, LGBTQI studies, peace studies, or (dis)ability studies. Applicants should hold a PhD degree in communication studies at the time of application (ABDs will be considered, but the requirements for the degree must be completed by July 1, 2016). Successful applicants should have an active program of research in their area of specialization, and will be expected to teach intercultural communication, research methods, as well as courses related to their specialty area. An interest in creating learning environments for diverse populations is desirable. This person will also be expected to serve in areas of student advising, curriculum development or service learning programs as needed by the department.
The Communication Studies program is a separate division in The School of Social Research and Justice Studies (SSRJS). Other units in the School include the Grant Sawyer Center for Justice Studies, the Department of Sociology, and the Department of Criminal Justice. The School is a unit of the College of Liberal Arts. The Communication Studies Division offers the B.A. degree and focuses on (a) relational dynamics, and (b) public advocacy and civic engagement. Our division teaches students from across the campus, and is developing interdisciplinary research and teaching partnerships with SSRJS departments and affiliated departments in the Gender, Race, and Identity Program in the areas of social justice and peace and conflict studies.
