“As bi-/multilingual education continues to gain momentum as a dynamic field of research, practice, and advocacy globally, there is a growing need for a unified, strategic vision to guide its systematic internationalization. As scholars dedicated to advancing bi-/multilingual education within and beyond our national contexts, we are excited and honored to introduce you to the work of the International and Comparative Bi-/Multilingual Education Research Group (ICBERG).

At ICBERG, we envision a global movement and a vibrant community of interculturally aware, open-minded, and engaged scholar-practitioners. Together, we are committed to forging innovative, transnational pathways for research, practice, professional development, and advocacy in bi-/multilingual education. Drawing from diverse conceptual, theoretical, and research traditions across the world, ICBERG aims to be a steadfast force for fostering international partnerships, nurturing collaborations, and driving globally-informed innovations that make a meaningful impact within, across, and beyond national borders.

Nazarbayev U: Multilingual Education (Kazakhstan)

Nazarbayev University was launched in 2010 as a premier national and regional flagship research university, partnering with some of the most internationally recognized names in higher education. The Graduate School of Education (GSE) was launched in 2013 with partners at the University of Cambridge and the University of Pennsylvania. Due to expansion, GSE invites applications for Full Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors for faculty positions beginning in January 2023. They are filling positions at open rank in the area of Multilingual Education.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • PhD in an appropriate discipline from an accredited and recognized international university (ABD at time of application will be considered, but PhD must be in hand at the time of appointment, and current PhD holders will be given priority);

  • A demonstrated record of research and publications appropriate to rank;

  • Teaching experience at the university level (experience in postgraduate programs will be given a priority);

  • Experience in developing new courses and program curricula;

  • Experience and readiness to supervise Master’s and Ph.D. student thesis research

  • Excellent intercultural communication and collaboration skills;

  • Commitment to maintaining a collegial and inclusive work environment;

  • Commitment to making a difference through education to the School, University and wider society.

    Responsibilities include teaching, research, and school service. The University offers opportunities for research support. All positions are for a three-year term with the possibility of renewal.

Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education (NUGSE) invites applicants to join the international faculty to share in a vision of becoming a world-class center for postgraduate teaching and research in education. Due to expansion, NUGSE is recruiting for faculty members in Multilingual Education at Associate Professor level. The position start date is August 1, 2019.

The successful candidate will possess a doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics, Bilingual Education, Educational Policy, or a closely related field, and expertise in teaching and research related to one or more of the following areas: language development or acquisition in bilinguals/additional language learners; curriculum and assessment for multilingual contexts; content-based instructional strategies (e.g. CBI, CLIL); multiliteracies; language policy; sociolinguistics; plurilingualism; or language education for young learners.
