Kansas State U job ad: Intercultural/International Communication

Assistant Professor of Intercultural/International Communication
Kansas State University

As a vibrant and growing department, the Communication Studies Department at Kansas State University invites applications for three tenure-track, Assistant Professors beginning August 2015.

We are searching for three Assistant Professors based on the following position descriptions:
Position 1: Assistant Professor of Interpersonal Communication or Persuasion/Social Influence. Applicants should demonstrate a high proficiency in quantitative and/or qualitative methodology. Further, applicants’ research agendas should bridge interpersonal or persuasion/social influence communication with an applied specialty interest area.

Position 2: Assistant Professor of Intercultural/International Communication. Applicants should demonstrate a high proficiency in a particular research methodology. Further, applicants’ research agendas should bridge intercultural/international communication with an applied specialty interest area.

Position 3: Assistant Professor whose research addresses collective/group decision-making (such as public dialogue and deliberation, community/civic engagement, or global development). This appointment would help advance the work of Kansas State University’s Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy. Applicants should demonstrate a high proficiency in a particular research methodology.

The successful candidate will:
– conduct a program of research in his or her area of specialization;
– teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in her or his area of specialization;
– teach undergraduate and graduate courses demanded by departmental programs;
– advise undergraduate and graduate students;
– direct and/or serve on thesis committees;
– provide service to the department and university;
– contribute to interdisciplinary research that aligns with the University’s research priorities; and
– share our commitment to diversity.

The Communication Studies Department offers masters’ and bachelors’ degrees in communication and rhetorical studies. Four specialized tracks are offered at the undergraduate level: Political Communication, Organizational Communication, Legal Communication, and Relational Communication. The growing department is committed to Kansas State University’s goal of being a top-50 research university by 2025. In addition to producing quality research and innovative teaching, the department takes pride in their students who compete on nationally competitive debate, forensics, and mock trial teams.

The Communication Studies Department is located at Kansas State’s Manhattan campus, home to more than 24,000 students. In 2013, Kansas State University achieved record highs in fundraising, external grant awards, and student enrollment. A part of the scenic Flint Hills region some 100 miles west of Kansas City, Manhattan is a growing, increasingly multicultural city. In 2011, Manhattan was ranked by Forbes magazine as the best small city in the U.S. for business and careers.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate:
– completion of a Ph.D. in Communication by August 2015;
– evidence of teaching excellence; and
– evidence of scholarly achievement.
