“This volume seeks to enhance and reframe the central role played by culture, broadening the definition of translation to account for the multifaceted impact of AI. We invite contributors to engage with translation in its broadest sense, encompassing AI and other technology-driven approaches, same-language rewriting, sociolinguistic transfers, and intersemiotic adaptations across fields like anthropology, education, political science, and others. We also emphasise non-institutionalised forms of translation, including community interpreting, multimodal narratives, and intercultural adaptations of high and pop culture.
Our objective is four-fold:
-
Bridge disciplinary divide: Highlight existing synergies and foster dialogue between traditionally separate fields;
-
Expand methodological boundaries: Advocate a broader understanding of translation that incorporates less commonly studied areas, practices or communities;
-
Evaluate AI capabilities: Analyse the critical challenges, biases, and opportunities brought by emerging AI technologies; and
-
Shifting away from Euro-centric modules: Showcase marginalised and postcolonial perspectives on technology and culture that go beyond the traditional Western and Global North perspectives.”
