The research project is at the intersection of social psychology and sociolinguistics, examining how accents function as social signals. The focus is on social perception, attitudes, emotions, and behaviours related to foreign accents. The research addresses questions of stereotypes, discrimination, and social inclusion from a Swedish and international perspective, with a consistent gender perspective throughout. The project is interdisciplinary and connects to work and organisational psychology, political science, gender studies, and research on integration and belonging.
Methodologically, the project is primarily based on experimental studies and psychometric approaches, with the possibility of applying neuroscientific methods as well.
The position is within the Department of Psychology, which is characterised by a close and personal environment with strong collegial support. The doctoral student will be part of an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented research environment and will work in close collaboration with supervisors, with considerable emphasis on developing independence in planning, implementation, and scientific communication. In the later stages of the dissertation, the doctoral student may have the possibility to design their own sub-study within the project’s overarching themes.
